Project: Cooling Tower Guardrails with Custom Engineered Attachment
Client: Alberta Health Services, South Health Campus
Alberta Health Services engaged with Height Works to improve the safety of their work-at-height employees at the South Health Campus in Calgary, Alberta.
The goal for this project was to provide a fall protection solution for Alberta Health Services and their workers who service and do routine maintenance and cleaning projects on the cooling towers and cooling tower equipment at the South Health Campus. This project was essential for the safety of the employees, as the cooling towers are located 20-30 ft. in elevation above the roof deck.
Considering Alberta Health Services’ concerns to improve the safety of the surrounding workspace and the unique challenges faced for designing a custom solution for installation on the cooling towers, Height Works was able to propose custom-designed Kee Safety KeeKlamp guardrails affixed to thin sheet metal with an engineered connection.
Installation of this fall protection solution involved the disassembly of the top layer of the cooling towers and associated cooling tower equipment in order to install the waterproofed engineered connections. Then, reassemble the top layer of cooling towers and complete the installation of the passive guardrail system.
With installation completed, Alberta Health Services' work-at-height safety issues were resolved, and they received a cost-effective, passive fall protection solution to improve the safety of their work-at-height employees.
